My desire to study guitar making drew me away from family and friends in South Wales to Glasgow in 2009. The HNC Guitar Making in Anniesland College, Glasgow was a very in-depth, formal course and provided me with a solid foundation in guitar making. Here I learned the fundamentals, from tool sharpening to the wood drying and general good practice. Following this, I studied for four years at Puurs in Belgium, which taught a much more open curriculum. I took the opportunity here to make a wide variety of stringed instruments, from electric mandocello to an archtop guitar, in order to have as wide a base of learning as possible.
